The cast additions

Netflix has announced four additions to This Summer Will Be Different, its series adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel. In an October 6, 2026 announcement, Netflix Tudum names Malin Akerman, Megan Follows, Nadine Bhabha and Matias Lucas as joining the cast, giving readers more details about the ensemble bringing the book to television.

According to Tudum’s cast list, Akerman will play Aunt Stacy, Follows will portray Cheryl, Bhabha takes the role of Farah and Lucas plays Carter. The list also identifies Sophie Nélisse as Lucy, Francesca Reale as Bridget and Roby Attal as Felix, placing the newly announced performers alongside those actors in the adaptation.

Tudum describes the central story as a romance about a young woman navigating her twenties and her first real love. The relationship involves her best friend’s brother, someone she was never supposed to fall for, making that connection the central complication in the platform’s account of the premise.

Production and release timing

Netflix describes the adaptation as a 10-episode series, with filming in Toronto and Prince Edward Island. Tudum names Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart as its creators. Those details establish the announced episode count and production locations for readers following the novel’s move to television.

Tudum lists Karen Maine, Jasmin Mozaffari and Fab Filippo as the directors across the series’ episodes. Netflix Canada content directors Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury describe the production as a collaboration with Clark, Stewart and Sphere, tying the adaptation’s creative team to its Toronto and Prince Edward Island setting.

For viewers waiting to watch, Tudum reports that filming has just begun in Prince Edward Island and Toronto. That is a production milestone rather than a streaming release. Premiere timing remains open: Tudum directs readers to await a further update without announcing a release date.
